If you’ve been on the net for quite awhile, you’ve probably noticed that when you visit some sites, they have an icon next to their URL in the address bar of your browser. This icon will also show up next to the web site name in your Favourites list.

The question is how do you create a favicon?

I’m assuming here that you already have web site to begin with. And probably even a logo. Having assumed that, it’s actually simpler than you think.

Go to http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/, click on the Browse button and look for an image on your computer (preferably your logo or part of it) and then click on the Generate FavIcon.ico button. That’s it.

You’ll receive a zip file that you can download, with your favicon.ico file in it. Just upload that file to your server, in the same folder as your webpages.

Then just add, the following code within the <HEAD></HEAD> tags of your webpages:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" >

Some browsers will automatically search for your favicon even without the code above. But to be absolutely sure, add it.
